About Christo

Christo J. Reynen was born in Sacramento in 1977.  He obtained a B.F.A. at San Francisco Art Institute and M.A. in Art in Public Places from California State University, Sacramento.  Since his emergence in the 2000’s, Reynen has blended his humanitarian and environmental concerns with his broad body of work.  His artwork explores contemporary obsessions with body image; ethical treatment of animals; urban/suburban tensions; and most recently, Earth Art to Eco Art.  Focusing on the environment, his latest series embodies a spiritual or expressive essence only found in nature.  For him, “My works not only look to the past and present state of the world, but also allude to the future, guided through a convergence of the organic, scientific and the spiritual forms.”

Since his first solo show in 2001, Reynen has exhibited extensively across the nation including in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York.  He has obtained recent notoriety and attention, and was commissioned by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center – Board of Trustees office headquarters in Beverly Hills.  Reynen’s painting is hung alongside some of the world’s greatest artists including Picasso, Warhol and Liechtenstein.  In addition, his art was purchased for TMZ (a celebrity gossip TV show) and “House” (TV series).  Since “House” was the most watched television program in the world in 2008, Reynen continues to subvert the ideas of ‘high art’ by reaching a vast audience of multi-cultural viewers from around the world.  Reynen says “My job is to create art that can bring Americans and American artists together in honor of the universal language of creativity.  American artists can affect positive change through their ideas, imagery and craftsmanship. ”
